Location: Abu Dhabi
Project Date: 2008
People: Mark Ricketts / Ian Christesen
Project Description
Abu Dhabi has grown
spectacularly in recent years but its waste system had remained significantly
sub-standard. In 2008, the Government sought to develop a Waste Strategy
to guide the process of reaching world-class standards.
As
Waste Strategy Advisor, Mark Ricketts had primary responsibility for delivering
the new Waste Strategy and two year Implementation Plan for the Emirate,
including gathering and analysing baseline data, preparing options on
technologies, regulatory policy and enforcement, legislative frameworks, and
public engagement strategy. He also played a part in the letting of
tenders for facilities, tariff analysis, consultation and workshop
facilitation.
Ian Christesen was responsible for a global scan of
collection systems and the commissioning of trials of various leading edge
technologies, including underground storage to service the different
urban precincts. As part of the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Agency team,
Ian was also critical to commercial negotiations, liaison with waste service
customers, mapping of underground infrastructure and facilitating the
introduction of the trials.
