Third
Party Review and Environmental Auditing
Michael has
completed or is currently acting as Third Party Reviewer of a variety of
assessment reports, site management plans (SMPs) and remediation action
plans
(RAPs) for a variety of sites throughout Queensland. In his role as an
appointed EPA Victoria Environmental Auditor, Michael has completed
numerous
audits under both Section 53X (audit of a segment of land) and Section
53V
(audit of the risk of harm of an activity) of the Environment
Protection Act 1970 for a variety of sites of varying
contamination complexity, throughout Australia.
Contaminated Land Assessment and Remediation
Michael has a strong working knowledge
of
all key aspects of contaminated land management, including property due
diligence assessment, soil and groundwater sampling design and
methodology,
interpretation of chemical analytical data, quality assurance/quality
control
procedures and remediation technologies. He has worked on a diverse
range of
contaminated land projects including former gasworks sites, active and
former
landfills, chemical manufacturing facilities, service stations and
petroleum
storage depots, fire training areas, Defence sites and livestock dips.
One of
his key specialties is the field of human health risk assessment, in
relation
to contaminated land.
Property Due Diligence Assessment
Michael has conducted several due diligence
assessments on a range of industrial facilities including various
manufacturing
facilities, laboratories, storage facilities and a radio / television
transmission station.
Human Health Risk Assessment
Michael has gathered considerable expertise
in conducting environmental risk assessments. Specific projects have
included
industrial, recreational and residential land uses. For many of these
projects
he has played a direct role in assessing the fate and transport of
potentially hazardous
chemicals within soil, groundwater and air, and assessed their potential
for
exposure to human populations and environmental receptors. He is also
proficient at quantifying these risks using a range of techniques.
